Protect Your Data!

You can write protect your floppy disk so your PC can not write to or erase information from your floppy disk. It can only read from the disk. It's like pushing the tab out in the back of a VCR tape so you can't record on it anymore.

The 5 1/4" floppy disk has a write protect notch. Simply take a piece of opaque tape that comes with the disks, and put it over this notch. It is located on the lower left-hand side of the disk as you are putting the disk into the drive.

The 3 1/2" floppy disk also has a write protect notch on the lower left-hand side of the disk as you are putting the disk into the drive. This notch has a tile that slides. If you slide the tile so you can see through the hole, the disk is write protected.

Write protection is reversible. On the 5 1/4" just remove that small piece of tape from the notch. On the 3 1/2", just slide the tile so you can not see through the hold.

Finally, make backups of your floppy disks. In other words, make a duplicate copy of your original floppy disk. That way, if you loose one, or the original disk dies, you have a spare.
